I usually go for the covers that have really bold pictures. I like when you can really imagine that character in the book, or something that just pulls you in and makes you want to know more.
Or, I always reach for a book that has a beautiful landscape, or flowers on it. Something that just speaks to the soul.

Re: Do not judge a book by.......
This reminds me that I need to rearrange my bookshelf...the knick-knacks are taking up more room than the amount of new books I have acquired, and that must change.
I usually don't pay much attention to covers until after I've considered both title, author, and the synopsis on the back, as well as a flip or two through some pages. Then I confront the cover, and I usually like matte covers that have nothing to do with the book itself, or that capture the overall theme of the book without giving anything away.
For instance, the last Harry Potter book tells you just by looking at it that at some point in the novel, Harry will ride a dragon. I don't want to know things like that just from looking at the cover. I'd rather discover it for myself within the words. If I wanted to see pictures, I'd get an art book or rent a movie.![Mr. Green ](https://www.booktalk.org/images/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif)

Re: Do not judge a book by.......
Haha my bookshelf needs organized too. It's just not big enough! I need another, but my room's not big enough either.
That, and my cats sleep up there...and there's some old action figures laying around up there..
So it's pretty disorganized.

Re: Do not judge a book by.......
I don't judge a book by its cover however it does help me imagine the characters and/or setting, etc. as I'm reading.
