It's the question that plagues you at every cocktail party/ first day of class/ trip to your hometown. After you answer, people inevitably ask "so what are you going to do with that?" But it's kind of fun to ask once you've finished!
So, what was your college major? If you're currently in college, what are you majoring in? If you're not in college, what would you major in? And if you could go back, would you do it differently?
I double majored in Psychology (mostly taking courses in memory and cognitive science) and English (british literature). I occasionally wish that I had swapped English for Biological Anthropology, but c'est la vie.

Re: What was your college major?
I have a Bachelor of Science in Creative Writing, with a ridiculous minor in Political Science (I took one class and really liked it, and since I needed a concentration separate from the English department, I went with Poli-Sci, which, in retrospect, was a big mistake because I hated every other class I took in it. I should have gone with a theatre minor instead
).
Then, having no idea what to do with such an interesting but useless major, I attempted to continue my education by spending a semester and a half in grad school for a Master of Fine Arts in Poetry. Halfway through I decided I hated the poetry world and its pretention and ass kissing, and with the help of some medical problems, I decided not to further pursue the degree.
Now I have no idea what to do with my life, and since my degree is an impressive conversation piece but otherwise useless in today's job market (as I mentionted earlier), I am faced with the dilemna of either dooming myself into retail hell or pursuing a degree in a more career minded field. I'm thinking about accounting. I know. Hilarious, right? I love words and hate math. Mostly I just want to do something where I work quietly with data and don't have to deal directly with the public. I hate people on a general scale, and have severe social anxiety. So, accounting is looking pretty good, where I can use my obsessive compulsive attention to detail for monetary gain without having to sell things to hateful people all day.
My dream job, of course, is to be a copy editor. I drool at the prospect of correcting grammar and spelling all day. I don't even necessarily need to write. I just want to correct mistakes. Too bad no one's hiring copy editors anywhere near me. Accounting school it is.![Sad :(](https://www.booktalk.org/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif)

Re: What was your college major?
bleachededen, I need someone like you. My last editor missed a few things.
I was an IT Major. Never finished.
Classes and I never worked out well. My attention span is far too limited.
Funny. No one ever asks me about where I went.

Comparative Religious Studies. I would not change a thing. I loved it. I changed my major quite a few times before I actually chose it though. Now I work in social services. Now I am looking into studying social work. Learning is the best. ![Very Happy :D](https://www.booktalk.org/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

Don't do it! From an over worked, over stressed psychiatric social worker.seespotrun2008 wrote:Comparative Religious Studies. I would not change a thing. I loved it. Re: What was your college major?
Hopefully by fall all my college issues will work out. I plan on majoring in education, with a concentration as in 'intervention specialist' (aka special education). Not too sure about a minor, though. I'll figure it out eventually, I'm sure.
And I don't know how you could be an account, bleachededen. I took a peek in my mom's accounting book and got a headache.![Mad :x](https://www.booktalk.org/images/smilies/icon_mad.gif)
But math has never been my strong point.![Razz :P](https://www.booktalk.org/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif)

Re: What was your college major?
That doesn't sound very promising...
I'll figure it out. It's not like I'm looking into engineering or anything...
