I am th author of several mystery books titled How to Ruin a Vacaion, How to Lose a Job, and How to Lose a Client. (Book number four, How to Succeed Without Dying is with the publishers). So far, so good. But book number five has ground to a halt while I figure out how to put one word after another. Usually if I read a good work of humorous fiction, a few of my brain cells snap out of their ennui and come up with a good idea.
I realize this runs contrary to the accepted knowledge that art is born out of suffering, but I've tried the suffering artist approach and I find it depressing and inconvenient.
So if anyone out there can recommendation a book heavy on wry humor, pass it on to me. Please. Quickly.

Some of my favorites are Mark Twain, Salinger, and Sedaris. I have more, but I need to take a look at my, "will not give away under any circumstances," collection of books.

Re: Hello from the Writer's Block
Whenever I look for a book in my book cases I am forced to review my past. Each book reflects a diferent phase or mental outlook during my life. I don't need a diary; I just look at my book selections. (e.g. "Oh yeah, I remember that. That was the time I was reading everything I could put my hands on about the paranormal because I was convinced my teenaged daughter was possessed.")
By extension of this theory, I look at the books in other people's bookcases to find out what kind of people they are. However if they have no books, then I know we have very little in common. (Unless it turns out they're an e-book addict, in which case they're forgiven).

I do this too! The moment I see a bookshelf in someones home I can't help but check out their collection.I look at the books in other people's bookcases to find out what kind of people they are.
LOL Again, I feel the same way. However if they have no books, then I know we have very little in common.
I never thought of that. We can no longer judge a book by its cover, so to speak, as many people are reading their books with the Amazon Kindle or Sony Reader.(Unless it turns out they're an e-book addict, in which case they're forgiven).

Re: Hello from the Writer's Block
You're right about the possibility of profiling based upon books we list on our bookshelves in this site. Suddenly I feel so...exposed.
On a different note, each day I do indeed grow increasingly dependent on my Kindle. I still can't bring myself to dispose of my old hard copies, though. Even worse, I'm carrying my old habits with me to Kindle. I can't bring myself to delete a book after I've read it.
