Hi from Western New York

Unread post

Hi, my name is Ginny, and I am very happy to have found a place where I can
share my love of books. I have always loved to read as a child, which was not
easy in a family of TV watchers. My father nicknamed me “the phantom” due to my tendency to slip away to my room to read or listen to music while everyone else sat around in the living room watching prime time sit-coms.

I had gone through periods of "drought" since then when either schoolwork or other mundane tasks seemed to take over my life, and did not leave much time for reading. This was especially the case when my two boys were very
young. But as they grew, I grew back into reading. After an admittedly
enjoyable phase of picture books and fairy tales, we graduated to chapter books – such as Mary Pope Osborne’s “Magic Tree House” series and anything by Dav Pilkey. Now we have come to “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” by
Rick Riordan and the “Warriors” series by Erin Hunter. As my children are
growing into their love of reading, I am rediscovering mine. It is like coming
home again.

I have always been a great fan of science fiction and fantasy, but have been known to enjoy a psychological thriller now and then, or even a good murder mystery. I do not like to limit myself by genre, and am always up for a good read. I am currently reading a book series that was one of my favorites as a child: “ The Earthsea Cyle” by Ursula K. LeGuinn. (Of course, I always remembered it as “The Earthsea Trilogy” --apparently there have been some additional books written). In any case, it is a very interesting experience re-reading this childhood favorite as an adult. Quite a different perspective!

I am very happy to be back reading again, and look forward to sharing thoughts and ideas with everyone here.
