I'd also take a look at the Sony Reader. You can take ebooks out of the library. Also, the pocket edition is the lightest ereader out there, which I think makes reading more enjoyable. True, you have to download from a computer, but to me that's no big deal. I love the touch screen.
The Nook felt kind of heavy. I think libraries are going to have more and more ebooks, so I didn't get the Kindle.

Re: Kindle or Nook?
Thanks for such a great comparison, Veneer. I've owned a Kindle for a few months now and I am so happy with it. Of course I have nothing to compare it to, but it sure is enjoyable to carry it around and always have a few hundred books at the ready.
I bought my wife one for Christmas! shhhhhh Don't tell her.

Re: Kindle or Nook?
I got my kindle today and am currently going through the guide.
Just waiting for my case and screen protector...
So far it looks very nice! I keep thinking I'm reading on paper. The black flash takes a little getting used to but I'm over that now.

Re: Kindle or Nook?
Does anyone use the I Pad for reading books? Having a little computer I can put in my purse is very appealing to me. Reading free books is appealing as well. I'm starting to get really jealous of those who say, "I have access to hundreds of free books".
But I was just wondering how the I Pad compares to the Kindle and Nook. I guess I want the best of both worlds, is that possible?

Re: Kindle or Nook?
I'm torn between the Kindle and iPad as well, I'm waiting for the next version of both to decide. The Kindle obviously has the screen advantage for reading, but one of the reasons I want to wait is that it still lacks some features for reading pdf files. The capabilities of the iPad make the Kindle look like something from 1995, but I do want to use it for reading so the easier to read screen is a big selling point for the Kindle.Suzanne wrote:Does anyone use the I Pad for reading books? I think you can convert a pdf file to a kindle file, which should make it easier to read. Not sure though; I don't really think I'll use that feature too much.

Re: Kindle or Nook?
I think the the Kindle is the greatest piece of tech to grace the market. But, I'm the kind of person that has to have five books wherever I go, so its great to only need a kindle. Plus, I love shopping in the kindle store from anywhere I am. I got one last year for Christmas and I'm still just as in love with it.

Re: Kindle or Nook?
I got my basic Nook as a Christmas gift, so I have no Kindle experience. That said, I love my Nook. I was very wary of all e-readers, being so fond of paper books, but I've been won over.
The Nook has been easy on the eyes; I can choose my font and font size. It's easy to get loaner books from the library and all the free ones available online. I still prefer "real" books, but these devices certainly are handy.
My question is why the stupid names? Nook sounds a little too much like an intimate body part, and Kindle sounds like a German name for your relatives. Maybe that's my fuddy-dud side showing...

Re: Kindle or Nook?
I have a Kindle, so I am partial to that. Just glad technology finally caught on, I love having the many books I am reading at the same time at my findertips. I also tend to read some biggies, so a lot nicer having the tablet in bed than a cumbersome hardcover.
Very jealous the Nook now has color, I may add an iPad to get the few things I need in color, but for reading the Kindle is perfect. As a previous post said it is also great for getting the pdf files so that I can read some of the literary dialouge on the novels I am partaking of.

A good book is only made better with a glass of wine........

I think e-ink in color is still being perfected. It will look like the color in a newspaper.
