Sounds like you now have it about right, Naddia. A little swat when the child is willfully ignoring all discipline or when she is doing something dangerous works well if not overdone. It gets his or her attention and breaks a cycle. Time outs sometimes work when the kid is freaking out, i.e. enforced quiet time also breaks a cycle. Best of luck, mine are 13 & 15 - I sometimes wish for the terrific twos...
