Stay Out Of The Basement by R.L Stine , ah the memories. Nothing like revisiting a childhood favourite. :D

Endless:

The Grapes Of Wrath by John Steinbeck
Not exactly a 'jolly' read, but I did enjoy it. It reminds me of Woody Guthrie!
Only those become weary of angling who bring nothing to it but the idea of catching fish.

He was born with the gift of laughter and a sense that the world is mad....

I started Amber Magic (Haven Series #1) by B. V. Larson. So far I am enjoying it, and look forward to the next time I have a little bit of time to read. Hopefully it will be a good fantasy series.

I am reading "In the Woods" by Tana French! I like it. It's my first book from this author. I will definitely read some other books from her.

Recently I reread The Moomins series and it was lovely and sweet :)
At the moment I'm almost done with "The Blind Assassin" by M. Atwood. I absolutely loved the story inside of a story concept!
Next in line: "The Adventure of the Powder Room" by Eduardo Mendoza.
"From childhood's hour I have not been as others were
I have not seen as others saw
I could not bring my passions from a common spring
From the same source I have not taken my sorrow
I could not awake my heart to joy at the same tone
And all I loved - I loved alone"

I've read this twice; once while driving cross country to CA. I thought it was a fitting read for a cross country move. ;-)

Death in Venice by Thomas Mann. He was a contemporary of Hesse. I much prefer this book to The Glass Bead Game. Mann's prose is more melodic and I actually care about his protagonist.

I really enjoy Thomas Mann. I have just finished, "Buddenbrooks", which was good, but "The Magic Mountain", was fantastic. If you like "Death in Venice" you may want to try one of these.

I was going to pick up Buddenbrooks. Thanks for recommending it. I don't know why I haven't read him before this, but it looks like I'm a fan now.
