Separating faith and self can be compared to separating body and soul, a rather deadly operation.

Secularists are more generally concerned about insisting that religious authority should not provide the basis for secular law. Separation of church and state is about preventing a theocracy, an autocracy where a king rules by alleged divine right. The only freedom that is restricted by the separation of church and state is the ability of churches to impose their views on others.

As interbane pointed out, secular minded people have a perfect right, indeed a duty, to engage in dialogue about religious truth. The problem is that most religious people are incapable of rational dialogue because their beliefs are wrong and crazy. So they resort to strategies like ant here, suggesting that talking is oppressive.
