The Thorn Birds. I still get goose bumps when I think of the love between Ralph and Meggie.

The movies I like are decades old. The ones I recall best and can quote are, in no particular order:
The Lion in Winter
The Princess Bride
Animal House
It's a Wonderful Life
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Fantasia

The Book of Eli starring Denzel Washington. It was a powerful message of encouragement to those given a specific mission from the Lord that may take many years to accomplish, against all odds.

Not really a movie buff. The big one for me is The Lion in Winter. Katherine Hepburn won her 3rd Oscar as Eleanor of Aquitaine, Peter O'Toole was fantastic as Henry II, Anthony Hopkins made his film debut as Richard Coeur de Lion. The film is based on a Broadway play written by James Goldman. Plots and subplots and counter plots, wrapped in beautiful, forceful, flowing dialogue.

Litwitlou; don't know if you know this, but O'Toole's role as Henry II was a reprise of his role as the king in the movie "Becket" which also starred Richard Burton as Thomas Becket.

Yes, I haven't seen that movie in quite awhile. I remember the two riding through the fields when they come upon a pretty peasant girl. Henry takes her into her hut. Then he tosses her dad a bag of coins and rides off.Cattleman wrote:Litwitlou; don't know if you know this, but O'Toole's role as Henry II was a reprise of his role as the king in the movie "Becket" which also starred Richard Burton as Thomas Becket.

I had forgotten "Cuckoo's Nest." That one is big with me also - I do turn it over in my mind from time to time. Unforgettable characters, especially Nurse Ratched and McMurphy.TheAlcoholMemoirs wrote:Pan's Labyrinth. Requiem For A Dream. Citizen X. The Gift (the older version). Jeff Who Lives At Home. Off the top of my head, and when I was very young, I have to say watching Inherit the Wind with my mom.
I still love that movie.
Of course there are a couple more, but I grabbed that one out of memory first.
brilliant performance
