Well, the insanity of the holidays has ended (I think) the search for inmate contraband was expanded and a ton more stuff was discovered. In addition many of the officers had their lockers searched and there is at least one (that I heard about) that will be facing charges for introducing contraband to the facility.
We have had several more fights and another stabbing (in this case slashing is a better description), this time an inmate took a long cut in the back it extended from the shoulder to the center of his back exposing the anterior rib bones (the weapon was never recovered).
We also had an inmate crap himself during a transport; that resulted in something like 16 hours of overtime while the officers cleaned up the inmate, the transport vehicle and even the inmate's restraints.
On New Years I worked a double in the tower watching for escaping inmates and zombie dogs, sadly I saw neither.
The last couple of nights I have had the luxury of working an outside hospital gig; that is when we have an inmate that has been admitted to a hospital and there are a couple of officers on watch to make sure that he does not molest the staff (which is rather common in those situations) or try to escape (which has also happened).
I have been watching the inmate that had been stabbed in the back. He got something like 37 stitches. It was a rather long cut; in my opinion it was probably done with a razor blade.
The hospital had 4 inmates in 2 adjoining rooms, so there were 8 officers stationed in the hallway watching them. It was like a little C.O. party. And it was a nice break from working inside the prison.
Anyway I have 2 days off and I plan to enjoy them so...

Ah, good old Zombie dog...
Zombie Dog is not a prison term as you might be thinking. It is an inside joke from something that happened here on Book Talk a while ago.
We used to have a member by the name of Asana who made some very outrageous claims; one of which was that he used powers granted him by god to bring a neighbors dog back from the dead.
I nicknamed the creature "zombie dog" and ever since then I have used the zombie dog term because I think its freaking hilarious.

Well I get a couple of days off and the prison goes to hell... the ever expanding search caused by the recent discovery of contraband (cell phones and other electronics) has uncovered 17 ounces of marijuana, 2 more shanks, and an ice pick .
There was also an incident in the SHU where an inmate had sharpened the end of his tooth brush so (by his own admission) he could stab an officer he did not like. The inmate ended up attacking the officer without it but ultimately ended up regretted it. Then he tried to hang himself. The inmate was sent to the outside hospital and was transferred to a nearby Max facility last night.
My inmates are always well behaved... I whish I knew why.

Well last night we had some excitement (sort of). I was working a patrol position in one of the buildings on the north side of the prison when we received a "Red Dot" alarm.
What that means is that someone pulled a pin on their radio which sets off an alarm and sends the radio's location to a central processor. Then a call is put out from the armory telling all available officers to go to that location. The pin is only to be pulled in an emergency or when the officer feels threatened by one or more inmates.
So off I ran to go help the pin puller. I was rather proud of myself because I actually knew where I was going. (My prison is massive and there are still buildings that I have not been in often enough to have learned the layout.)
Anyway I was running to go help with the emergency, unlocking and relocking security doors as I went, just as I run up to the block where the problem was happening... the "All Clear" was sounded.
An officer dropped his radio and when he went to pick it up he grabbed the emergency pin by mistake and it popped out.
I figure that I ran about 1/2 a mile before the all clear was called. Despite the fact that I was running to aid with an unknown emergency (for all I knew) I had no anxiety. Maybe its ignorance but I just do not get all freaked out by potential trouble. I really do think this job suits me, because if there had been a real problem I would have arrived with a clear head and ready for action. :shuriken:
So I almost responded to a non-event... What a night!

Your inmates are probably well behaved because you don't pull a Stanford Prison Experiment on them every few hours. Torment those guys and they will hate you and plot to cause you harm.
