Before we put all of this thread's madness behind us, I would just like to point out that I was never trying to hand pick comments that reinforced my own views, but was merely literally pointing out which books had been given some kind of remark that suggested someone didn't want to read it. I never suggested that any one member has more say than another, but was only trying to separate what we DIDN'T agree on from what we DID. I apologize if this was seen as "prejudicial," but I was only trying to help.

I was also pointing out that it seemed to me that The Tin Drum only received "go ahead" remarks from members after their own suggestions were shot down, and so it seemed to be a "last resort" type effort without considering anything anyone else suggested. I'm sorry that I was wrong.

I've now made my three selections from the 8 books Suzanne has accepted, and will vote for one of those once the poll starts. I'm sorry for any trouble I've caused, but I would also like to point out that I WAS personally attacked and insulted, and hope that that kind of behavior will not be tolerated in future discussions.

Before I post my positives, I do want to note that I am not at all interested in reading The Good Man Jesus and the Scoundrel Christ

My top three or four picks are: The Tin Drum, Blindness, A Handmaids Tail, and Flatland. Those are only in the order of the list I was reading from and not in order of preference.

I've read this entire thread and for the most part think that this has been a very productive and positive discussion. One person has been very out of line and that person will receive an email from me about their behavior. If you didn't get an email you weren't that one person. Please, let's drop the personal attacks, attacks against BookTalk.org and veiled threats. None of that is appropriate.

Good job on this thread everyone. I am loving how you're all expressing your opinions on what you want to read. There is no reason why we can't do one fiction book in September and October and another in October and November. So maybe a Sci Fi book could get in the mix? We did read "Ender's Game" a few years ago.

Last call for book nominations!

There are four books that from what I have seen have received the most possitive feedback, these books are:

"Blindness"
"The Handmaid's Tale"
"The Tin Drum"
"The Good Man Jesus and the Scoundrel Christ"

If there are no further sugessions, these four books will be the choices up for votes for our next fiction discussion. Also, if you have not chimed in as to which of the original seven books nominated you would like to read, please do so now.

A new thread will be created consolidating the books offered for votes. Depending on the outcome of the poll, we can then decide if we want to have two fiction picks, or split the discussion period between two books. The above four books are eclectic, so hopefully there is a title that will appeal to each voter.
