I found this book amazing. It was so easy to get sucked into the little Hobbit's adventure and I thought it was beautifully written.
Now to start reading the Lord of the Rings
I'm in agreement. I find the Lord of the Rings to be possibly the most captivating book series I have ever read, but in fact so much so that I find them almost painful to read--I read so fast because i HAVE to know what's going to happen that I hardly even enjoy the book and literally CANNOT put it down until I'm finished...difficult with a three-volume set that are several hundred pages each! But no doubt (as a set) in my top-ten list of favourite books.
In terms of sheer enjoyment I find the Hobbit a little easier to read--it ends happily; it has jewels, dragons, goblins, spider, enchanted forests...a lot more of a book I might cuddle down with at bedtime. Lord of the Rings I find to be a serious emotional commitment--my whole life felt different after I finished it. Somehow I felt that my whole life would be worthless without a QUEST....*embarrassed smile* (yes, I really get into my books!)
