Re: The Oatmeal on religion
This is rather childish
What atheists just don't get is that their constant haranguing against religion is directed toward the INSTITUTIONS of religion, their rituals and trappings - nothing more.
What atheists can't or WON'T discuss are men/women of FAITH, that go beyond the mundane and live their lives according to the will of God.
Men like Dietrich Bonhoeffer can not be argued against, or explained away by angry, belligerent atheists. They simply ignore the good that religion has been for men like this.
It's selective critisizm and shows no real intellectual honesty or integrity.
Thanks

He can't be argued against? Why, because he was a good person? So that means Jesus was born of a virgin and rose from the dead?ant wrote: Men like Dietrich Bonhoeffer can not be argued against, or explained away by angry, belligerent atheists. Re: The Oatmeal on religion
There is no such thing as the will of god Ant. It follows that they are living their lives by something else. Or do you think it's the will of god that is expressed in the bible? What atheists can't or WON'T discuss are men/women of FAITH, that go beyond the mundane and live their lives according to the will of God.

Well then, that settles it right there.
End of discussion.

Well if you just want to argue that people can be positively motivated by false beliefs, I am perfectly willing to concede that. Do you want to claim more than that for religion?ant wrote:So that means Jesus was born of a virgin and rose from the dead?

Dexter, interbane, you need to stop being so angry and belligerent.
My screen smolders with your rage.
My screen smolders with your rage.
In the absence of God, I found Man.

Are you pushing your own short comings on us and safely hating them from a distance?
Is this the virtue of faith? To never change your mind: especially when you should?
Young Earth Creationists take offense at the idea that we have a common heritage with other animals. Why is being the descendant of a mud golem any better?

I'm not sure your intellect is vigorous enough to define reality.., yours, mine, or anyone elses. Quite frankly, you aren't even in the ballpark with philosophers of old who were certain of only one thing - that they could be certain of NOTHING.
We get it - you despise the institution of religion.
Now go out into the real world and do something about it. I'd truly respect that more than I would the posting of cartoons of ridicule.
