My name is Wendy Jo and I live in Iowa. I am 45 yrs old and love to sew, cross stitch and....READ! When I sew or stitch I have tried the books on a tape but you know..it just isn't the same as sitting and immersing yourself in a book! Some of just my favorite authors are: Kristin Hannah, Jodi Picoult, Anita Shreve, Anne Rivers Siddons and Lisa Scottoline. Lisa Scottoline is a "new to me" author and I am somewhat really hooked on her.
I just happened to stumble upon booktalk and so glad I did! Looking forward to making some friends and I am sure....will learn about some fabulous new books I must read.
My husband loves books too. Favorite authors of his: Mercedes Lackey and L.E. Modesitt, Jr.
Have a good evening!
Wendy

Welcome, Wendy Jo. It's always nice to see new folks joining up. I think you'll find lots of kindred spirits here interested in talking about your favorite authors and books with you.

Re: Hello a newbie!!
Welcome, Wendy. I also listen to audio books (while exercising), and I understand your point. Sort of like my Kindle. While I enjoy the convenience, and the ability to change the size of the font, I sometimes miss the look and feel of a 'real' book.
By the way, my mother's family came from Iowa, so I feel a kinship with that state, though I have spent very little time there.

Hello Wendy! Welcome to booktalk! I'm so jealous that you can sew! That's a talent I haven't been able to pick up on. I'm sure you're going to have a great time on here!

Re: Hello a newbie!!
Dear Wendy,
since I haven't read the authors you mention (although I did hear about Jodi Picoult and Anita Shreve), what would you recommend for the first reading?
thank you..

Re: Hello a newbie!!
Hi Milan,
That is a tough question! I would say...Anita Shreve. One of my favorites that had me where I just couldn't put the book down was Testimony by Anita Shreve's. I thought it was very good.
Let me know what you decide.

Re: Hello a newbie!!
Dear Wedny,
I think Anita Shreve will be my first choice.
And, since you've already mentioned the Testimony, I will try to find it in my local library.
All the best from snowbound Belgrade,
Milan
