Greetings from the other part of Illinois.

Hi,

My name is Brooks. I signed up for this site the other day, and never got around to really giving any details on who I am or what I write. I did do a little bit about myself in the free promotion section with a link to my work. :)

As the subject heading suggest, I am a writer from Southern Illinois, and given how financially distressed the state I live in is, at the moment, one could argue it is befitting that I enjoy reading and writing grit lit fiction.

I also enjoy taking walks and having deep discussions with my friends on a variety of topics we know nothing about, but pretend we do.

The authors I am into are across the board: F. Scott Fitzgerald, Hunter S. Thompson, William S. Burroughs, Jack Kerouac and Larry Brown, to name a few.

I am interested in connecting with any other writers who are into grit lit. So if you write grit lit, it would be great to hear from you. If you do not write grit lit, it would still be great to hear from you.

My story is similar to yours, though I have not posted a thank you/introduce yourself post yet. I am responding to your introduction because it piqued my interest. What is Grit Lit fiction.? I have written fiction, but struggled to place it in an exact genre. Action and adventure? Broaching dark subject matter in a humorous way? I still don't really know. I finally gave up, and switched to something else because my first novel was written from the soul. I set myself up for a world of hurt if it is rejected. So to keep my sanity, I decided to write fiction using pure imagination. Now what do I call THAT? Still- describe for me what Grit Lit is.

Most of my spare time entails angling for reviews since my book came out, and I still don't know what to do about it. I may have to pay professionals to do it for me. My book of imagination is just sort of keeping my mind active and creative while I stress about a book that is already done. Much more of this, and I will let it stand on it's own merit. Before I go and check back later to see if you responded or not, what do you think about using only digital media to distribute what you have written? These are the things this author stuggles with.

When I come back later on this evening, I will post a thank you spot-for now, I have to go.///John Needham
