Very nicely said George. I think you've captured how relationships can be solidified and enhanced when a carefully considered gift from the heart is freely given. Generosity matters and makes a difference.

Chris, is there anyway to move my initial response, minus the first two sentences, and DH's reply to another thread entitled "Holiday-inspired donating" or something similar? Or just move the whole response and I can rewrite the part that was directed to this thread.

Instead of giving more things, give more meaning.
I'm not going to belabor this, but I resent the effort to highjack this thread and turn it into something it was never intended to be. My essay has nothing to do with charitable donations, regardless of how worthy, and it especially has nothing to do with anything even remotely religious, unless you use the word in its most generic and irrelevant sense.
One of the reasons I've curtailed my activities on this board is that discussions here are constantly diverted into great gushing religious speculations that offer lots of evidence of intellectual befuddlement and little real content.
Frankly it gets tiresome wading through this dreck. I have better ways to spend my time.
So, DH, thanks for nothing.
