Hi there. Newby here. I'm a voracious reader. Everything from Sci Fi to Boigraphies.
For Instance
Harry Potter
Wheel of Time

or if you prefer Authors
Dean Koontz
Iris Johannson
Robin Cook
Michael Crichton
Clive Cussler
AE Van Vogt

Hi,

What kind of plane do you fly/certifications held? Do you do it for a living or is it just a hobby? If for a living, for who? How long?

Welcome to BookTalk, Flyboy. I'm an aviation enthusiast too. But no logged hours, so I'm simply an enthusiast and not a legit aviator. :(

I hope you stick around and share some of your love of flying with us.

With all the millions you're making from BT, it would be silly to fly yourself.

FLYING

Unread post

Hi Pres. I'm a single engine instrument rated pilot since 77 and have had a couple of planes myself including a Piper Cherokee 6 and later a Lance. I've used the planes for business but not for hire. So I guess that would put it under the 'hobby' category technically.

I do love it though but stayed away from flying commercially because it felt too much like becoming a glorified bus driver for someone else. Albeit in the air. To much structure for me at any rate.

That's awesome! :D

Well I hope you pick up a copy of Neil Shubin's Your Inner Fish so that we can discuss it in May. (It is next month's nonfiction book.)

You should create a blog when you get the chance and post some pictures of your airplanes!!! :D

Hey Flyboy:

When I first saw your alias, I thought perhaps it was a reference to the novel Flyboy Action Figure Comes with Gas Mask.... but that refers to a person who turns in to an actual fly.

I love flying as well. I have been up a few times, and seriously considered trying a career as a bush pilot. I eventually decided against it for the reason you mentioned: fear of being a glorified bus driver. I hope to someday be in a place where I can fly for fun! It really is an incredible feeling... I'm one of those wacky people who loves heights, leans out on balconies, climbs to the top of the pyramid. But there's nothing better than flying!

Seems like you like a lot of popular writers... I tried the Wheel of Time, but gave up on it at about book eight. Would you recommend I keep reading? I guess a few more books have come out since then...

Yep I would recommend staying with Wheel of Time BUT Robert Jordan died last September. He'd finished the 11th book in the series with 1 to go and true to his word he "Keep writing until they nail my cofin shut" And apparently he did. In the last few weeks of his life he dictated all the pertinent points of the final book in the series to family members so the series WILL be completed. Now that's dedication.

A bush pilot as a glorified bus driver? Hmmm well that's a bit of different category..... more like an OFF ROAD bus driver LOL!!
